Union Church of Cupertino is "pressing on" toward the goal of being and building-up the Kingdom of God here in this place.
Our emerging vision is centered in the image of Building up The Kingdom of God. Our current focus is on three aspects of that vision…
Building Up The Body of Christ means reaching out to connect with visitors and to welcome and work with those who are new to our church. In 2006 we added a Monday-Night Jr. High Youth Bible Study: "New Life Revolution" to our church program. We also added a monthly Thursday Night Young-Men's "Full Catastrophe" Faith Fellowship Gathering to supplement our monthly Men's Fellowship Breakfast. We are currently working on a Fall Women's Retreat and a mid-week Women's Bible study to begin following the retreat experience. These programs in addition to those already in place (Tuesday Morning Pastor's Bible Study, Friday morning Bible Study, Sunday Morning Book Study) provide important points of access for those who are new to our church and provide us all with opportunities to grow toward deeper experience and expression in our life of faith.
Building Bridges of Connection within our community means reaching out beyond the walls of the church with ministries of service and support to the community of which we are a part. These Bridges of Connection are vital to bring greater understanding and cooperation among the diverse cultures that make up Cupertino. These bridges provide common ground for all of us as our church responds to the emerging breach which can be so damaging to our life together in community. In 2006 we have invested a great deal of time and energy working with three programs that are connected to our church. The Villa Montessori School has expanded into two more rooms. The Far East Education Institute After-School program has expanded into two additional rooms. And the Crystal Children's Choir is working with the church on a building which can be used as a shared Union Church/Crystal Choir facility. These three programs enrich us all. As the church opens its doors to the community the diverse cultures within Cupertino become integrated into the fabric of who we are in our life together as the Church of Jesus Christ here in this place.
Building Dreams toward what we and this world are called to become means allowing the Spirit of God to move within our community to provide us with an experience of the life of The Kingdom. These dreams are even now taking shape. We see these dreams coming to life in our response to provide greater support to the Cupertino Men's Rotating Shelter. We see these dreams coming to life as our young people participate in hands-on mission projects… as we continue to develop our benefit concert programs for Martha's Kitchen, Hope Rehabilitation Services, and Hurricane Katrina Rebuilding Relief…as we develop the position for an Associate Pastor or a Seminary Student Pastorate here at Union Church… There is still so much work to be done....................................................
