Weddings

Because we believe that God has established and sanctified marriage for our welfare and happiness, our church provides for Christian marriage services for its members and for non-member families. Both traditional and contemporary elements are included in most services, and creative changes may be discussed with our minister. This is a service of worship to be performed in keeping with the Christian faith.

Weddings are supposed to be the happiest occasions. They can also be the cause of stress amongst those of different faiths. At Union Church of Cupertino we welcome everyone and can provide a lovely venue for sharing one of the most special occasions in a new family’s life.

Fees for the use of the church facilities and for the individual services rendered for your wedding should be made in one payment to the Church instead of individual checks made out to each person. The balance due to the church must be paid at the time of your rehearsal. Make checks payable to UNION CHURCH OF CUPERTINO. The total should include all church-provided services. The following is the fee schedule as determined by the Board of Trustees.

More Info

Deposits: A security/damage/cleaning deposit of $100 is required to confirm the wedding date on our church calendar. This deposit will be refunded within 30 days after the wedding.

Seating Capacity: approximately 250 people

Minister: Our Minister usually presides at the wedding services held in our church. Arrangements for other ministers must be made in advance and with the approval of our minister. The honorarium for the minister, traditionally provided by the groom, is included in the total cost, and is paid directly to the Church. When the minister is not from Union Church, the fee should be negotiated directly with that minister and may differ from the honorarium quoted here.

Marriage License: The marriage license is given to the minister at the rehearsal. The minister is responsible for sending the completed form to the county clerk and for providing a copy to the church for it records.

Counseling: The minister will meet with the bride and groom to discuss the wedding ceremony and to fill out the wedding application. This session is an occasion for the minister and the couple to get better acquainted and allows for serious discussion of the meaning of a Christian marriage. Additional sessions are usually scheduled.

Rehearsal: A rehearsal is held for most church weddings, usually on the Friday before the wedding. Smaller weddings, without a rehearsal, may be planned with the minister during a counseling session.

To Reserve Your Wedding Date: You will need to fill out a wedding application and pay a deposit of $100. The deposit is refundable up to one month before the wedding; non-refundable after that time. The deposit will be refunded provided there’s no damage to any property.

Unavailable Wedding Dates: Due to special holidays and activities, weddings cannot be scheduled for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, or Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday.

Organist: Union Church has made the church organist responsible for the organ. Guest organists are not permitted. There is a piano in the Sanctuary and you may provide you own pianist, if desired.

Wedding Music: Because your wedding is a sacred ceremony, the piano/organ music and music of soloist should be classical or religious. The pianist/organist invites you to discuss special music with her. Additional soloists or musicians are welcome. If a soloist needs piano/organ accompaniment, practice times should be arranged with the pianist/organist.

Photographers: Pictures may be taken both before and after the ceremony. If you wish to have your wedding ceremony video taped, please discuss it in advance with the minister.

Flowers: You provide your own flowers or plants for decorating the church. The church does not provide any baskets, vases or stands. Your wedding flowers may be removed following your wedding service for use at the reception or by the family. If you wish to donate Saturday wedding flowers for a Sunday service, please arrange this with the minister.

Candles: The altar candles are provided by the church. If a Unity Candle is also desired, the wedding couple must provide it. Rice is nice, but dangerous. Birdseed is preferred by the church, and appreciated by the birds. Please, only in walkways and parking area!

Aisle Runner: If you wish to have a runner, your florist can provide one. It needs to be at least 26 yards long.

Candelabras: The church does not provide candelabras. These can be rented from your florist if you wish to have them.

Smoking & Alcoholic Beverages: Smoking is not permitted within the church buildings, nor are alcoholic beverages allowed on church grounds.
