Union Church of Cupertino is a proudly independent, inter-denominational community church deeply woven into the city's history.

Our Roots: In the 1860s, when Cupertino was a quiet expanse of vineyards and orchards, a small group of families began holding Sunday prayer meetings in their homes. For a short time, we were a Mission of the San Jose Presbytery, but our founders recognized that their diverse backgrounds did not require adherence to a single denomination. They Incorporated in 1888 with a vision that remains our guiding light today:

"Said church… is to be used and enjoyed alike by the disciples of all Christian denominations, it being the intention to allow the members of all religious creeds to participate in and share in the advantages." (Articles of Incorporation, 1888)

Who We Are Today: Operating "with Christ as the head," we remain free of denominational affiliations and independently fund our ministries. Our pastors have historically been drawn from various traditions, including Methodist, United Church of Christ, and Presbyterian backgrounds.

Today, we are a Christ-centered, family-friendly congregation made up of long-time locals and newcomers alike. Reflecting the rich, multicultural diversity of modern Cupertino, our campus serves as a vibrant community hub. We share our property with the Christian Righteous Education Center (a Chinese Montessori School) and actively host community groups, debate schools, and STEM camps. Furthermore, our newest building, funded through a collaborative partnership with the Crystal Children’s Choir, which has rehearsed in our halls for over 30 years, is used by both the choir and the India Community Center. Through worship, music, mission outreach, and a growing digital livestreaming presence, we are called to carry forward the independent, diverse spirit of our founding into the next era of ministry.
